A green turtle was found accidentally trapped in a fishing net along Verde Island Passage here early Wednesday morning and released back into the sea after it was measured and tagged, an environment official said Thursday.
Ricardo Natividad, an officer of the protected areas and wildlife bureau of the Oriental Mindoro Environment and Natural Resources Office, said the green turtle, an endangered species , was found at around 4 a.m. by Carlito Montero while fishing near Silonay Island, along the Verde Island Passage, an area known globally for its high biodiversity.
Montero found the turtle in his net and reported it to village captain Venecio Vergara.
