Croc death distressing

The accidental drowning of a 4.6m crocodile by rangers is distressing – and downright annoying.

An animal that size was probably 60 years old; it had ruled the roost at Shady Camp for 40 years.

Rangers were called in to catch the big bull because it had become a “problem” by going too close to fishing boats.

And the reason it was doing this was because it had been fed by fishermen over the side of a tinny.

Crocodiles aren’t stupid – they will accept a free feed, rather than expend an enormous amount of precious energy catching it themselves.

So, a crocodile habituated to humans by one group of reckless fishermen is drowned while being caught to protect fishermen.

To make things worse, the fishermen were warned not to feed the saltie, but did it anyway.
