Pretrial hearings for a mother and her live-in boyfriend on third-degree murder and manslaughter charges stemming from last year’s strangulation death of her 2-year-old girl by a pet Burmese python, were continued Wednesday to May 12.
Jaren Ashley Hare, free on $35,000 bail, showed up for the hearing Wednesday in the Sumter County courthouse, but remained silent as officials discussed the status of the case. No estimated trial date on the charges was given.
“It’s going to take a lot of work on both sides before the case goes to trial,” said Pete Magrino, who’s prosecuting the case.
