Opportunistic gator snags bass from fisherman

There’s a 7-foot gator in Fred and Patricia Morrison’s backyard pond with a brazen attitude and a taste for largemouth bass.

The Morrisons live in Island Lakes, a development off Courtenay Parkway and Hall Road on Merritt Island.
Recently, Chris Mahoney, the Morrisons’ son visiting from New Hampshire, hooked a 5-pound bass on a plastic worm while fishing from the bank of the pond. As Mahoney pulled the bass toward shore, the bass was flopping and splashing in the shallows.
