Ball pythons: Slithery pets on the rise in popularity

Due to today’s modern lifestyle as many people are more unusual in expressing their individuality, having a pet snake has become a more and more common sight, especially among those living in the concrete jungle.

Ball pythons are one of the most popular snake species kept in captivity today, with the biggest market for the slinky creature being the United States, followed by Asian countries such as China, Hong Kong, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and most of all, Japan.

An adult ball python generally weighs several kilogrammes, and grows to some 120-150 centimetres in length. In Thailand, a ball python at four months can be sold for Bt120,000 (over US$3,600).
