Science for a long time could not find the answer to the question why the snakes are able to move so quickly, because creep is quite a complicated way to move.

It was believed that during the bending of the body of the snake is repelled of irregularities on the ground and from the various plants, which enables it to crawl faster.

Scientists have conducted several studies and refuted this view. They found that the secret of the rapid movement of the snake is in the structure of its scales. The scales on the skin of a snake’s belly are located so that it does not give a shift in the direction of the tail and laterally, thus defining the way forward as the preferred. A similar mode of transport used in skiing and skating. Such uneven friction in different directions of motion is called friction anisotropy.
