Stolen snake: South Fort Myers petting zoo reports python pried from its cage

Authorities are on the hunt for a python — the same type of snake that inhabits the Everglades — stolen from a petting zoo during the weekend in South Fort Myers.

Robert Luce Engesser, 44, of Chiefland, told Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies the snake was secured in its locked cage about 11 p.m. Saturday. At 7 a.m. Sunday, the 9-and-a-half-foot-long female snake was missing, according to a grand theft report released Monday. The report did not state what type of python was stolen.
