Death adder off the scales

Snake catchers are hailing this fat northern death adder, taken from a family’s doorstep, as one of the thickest and ugliest examples of the species.

The snake was removed from a Kewarra Beach home last week and has since been released.

It had an estimated girth of about 5cm.

Snake handlers from Cairns and Melbourne say northern death adders rarely reach that thickness and are rated the fifth deadliest snake in the world.
