Croc trap tamperers 'should be shamed'

The Northern Territory Government needs to get tough on people tampering with crocodile cages, including publicly shaming them and significantly increasing fines, crocodile hunter Mick Pitman says.

There are estimated to be more than 70,000 saltwater crocodiles in the Top End, with the reptiles causing the deaths of two people last year, including that of an 11-year-old girl in Darwin’s rural area.

Traps are set by rangers around Darwin and other populated areas and almost 200 were caught in the region last year, including one that was almost 5 metres long.
