'Too many big crocs' putting lives at risk

A renowned croc hunter has warned saltwater crocodiles would continue to kill despite a “no tolerance” plan promising to control the deadly animals.

“Crocodile” Mick Pitman has handled the “killer machines” for more than 30 years.

But he said the number of large animals in Top End waters had reached abnormal levels.

“I’ve been to Queensland, PNG and I’ve never seen so many 3m to 4m crocodiles in the river systems like here,” he said.

“Some of the areas that surround Darwin and even out at Kakadu are like volcanos at the moment. Large mature animals are just overflowing like lava.”
