Local Breeder Battling Proposed Snake Ban

A York County man is fighting to keep his snake breeding business up and running. Larry Kenton of Washington Township says a proposed nationwide ban on the reptiles would devastate his livelihood. He has been breeding pythons and boa constrictors for more than 30 years.

“It was fun, it was a hobby that became a business. I was raising a child by myself and it was making more money than the job I had,” said Kenton.

Kenton’s business and passion is now in jeopardy. A bill, being proposed by a Florida lawmaker, would ban 9 giant constrictor snakes. The bill would make it illegal for people to import or engage in the interstate trade of the reptiles.
